A dump truck is a vehicle designed to unload its cargo automatically through hydraulic or mechanical lifting; it is also known as a tipper. It consists of components such as a vehicle chassis, a hydraulic lifting mechanism, a cargo bed, and a power take-off (PTO) unit.
Dump truck beds are designed for either rear-tipping or side-tipping operations, with the movement of the piston rod controlled by an operating system. Rear-tipping is the most common configuration, where the piston rod extends to tilt the bed; a smaller number of models feature bi-directional tipping capabilities.
In civil engineering projects, dump trucks frequently operate in conjunction with construction machinery-such as excavators, loaders, and belt conveyors-to form loading, hauling, and unloading production lines for the transport of earthworks, sand, gravel, and bulk materials.
