The function of the drive system is to rotate the concrete mixing drum; it consists of a power take-off (PTO), universal shaft, hydraulic pump, hydraulic motor, control valve, hydraulic oil tank, and cooling unit. If this system fails and stops operating, the drum cannot rotate, rendering the concrete inside unusable; in severe cases, the concrete may harden inside the drum, effectively scrapping the entire mixer truck. Therefore, the reliability of the drive system is a critical factor in operation. To ensure the system remains in good working order, the following maintenance measures should be taken:

 

The universal joint assembly is prone to failure; therefore, it requires regular lubrication and frequent inspection for wear, with timely repairs or replacements as needed. Fleet operators should stock spare universal shaft assemblies to ensure that operations can resume within minutes in the event of a breakdown.

 

Ensure the hydraulic oil remains clean. Concrete mixer trucks operate in harsh environments, so it is essential to prevent wastewater, mud, and sediment from entering the hydraulic system. Hydraulic oil must be changed regularly in accordance with the manufacturer's manual. If inspection reveals the presence of water, mud, or sediment in the oil, the machine must be shut down immediately to flush the hydraulic system and replace the oil.

 

Ensure the hydraulic oil cooling system functions effectively. Regularly clean the hydraulic oil radiator to prevent cement buildup, and check that the radiator's electric fan is operating correctly to avoid excessive hydraulic oil temperatures. Generally, provided the hydraulic oil is kept clean, the hydraulic system experiences few malfunctions; however, service life varies depending on the manufacturer.
