The Traction Control System (TCS)-also known as ASR or TRC-is designed to ensure the vehicle maintains optimal traction under various driving conditions. Controlled by an onboard computer, the system monitors the speed of all four wheels and the steering wheel angle. During acceleration, if the computer detects an excessive speed difference between the driven wheels and the non-driven wheels, it identifies that the driving force is too high; it then issues a command to reduce the engine's fuel supply, thereby lowering the driving force and minimizing wheel slip. Additionally, the computer uses a steering angle sensor to interpret the driver's steering intent and compares the speed difference between the left and right wheels to determine whether the vehicle's actual turning behavior aligns with that intent.
The traction control system prevents driven wheels from spinning idly on slippery surfaces-such as snow-enabling the vehicle to start and accelerate smoothly. Particularly on snowy or muddy roads, the system ensures consistent acceleration and prevents the vehicle from sliding sideways or fishtailing due to wheel slippage.
