The product scope of China's construction machinery industry is primarily derived from the broader categories of general-purpose equipment manufacturing and special-purpose equipment manufacturing. In 1979, the State Planning Commission and the First Ministry of Machine-Building Industry formulated the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" for the development of the sector, defining a scope that encompassed 18 major product categories. These 18 categories have been reaffirmed in all subsequent national plans for the machinery industry, maintaining a consistent product scope over time.
These 18 major product categories include excavating machinery, earthmoving and transport machinery, construction hoisting machinery, industrial vehicles, compaction machinery, piling machinery, concrete machinery, rebar and prestressing machinery, finishing and decoration machinery, rock drilling machinery, pneumatic tools, railway track maintenance machinery, military engineering machinery, elevators and escalators, and specialized components for construction machinery, among others.
