This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the SINOTRUK HOWO TH7 series dump truck, including pre-operation checks, safe driving, dump bed operation, maintenance, and critical safety protocols.

A full pre-trip inspection is required before starting the engine to prevent mechanical failures and accidents.

Exterior & Mechanical Checks

• Fluid Levels: Verify engine oil, coolant, hydraulic oil, fuel, and brake fluid are at the recommended ranges. Inspect the ground for any leaks (oil, coolant, or hydraulic fluid).
• Tires & Wheels: Check tire pressure (including the spare tire) and tread depth. Confirm all lug nuts are properly torqued, and inspect for cuts, bulges, or excessive wear.
• Brake System: Build air pressure to 8–10 bar. Ensure there are no abnormal pressure drops or air leaks. Test both service and parking brakes for functionality.
• Chassis & Hydraulics: Inspect the dump bed, hydraulic cylinders, hoses, pivot points, and tailgate locking mechanism for damage, cracks, or loose fasteners.
• Safety Equipment: Confirm the fire extinguisher, warning triangles, reflective markers, and first-aid kit are present and in good condition.

Interior & Electrical Checks

• Instrument Panel: Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) to verify all warning lights illuminate (oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery, air pressure, ABS). These lights should turn off once the engine starts.
• Controls Test: Operate the steering wheel, clutch, gear shifter, turn signals, headlights, hazard lights, wiper blades, and horn to ensure full functionality. Confirm the hydraulic control valve is set to the neutral position.
• Driver Setup: Adjust the seat, steering wheel, and mirrors for optimal visibility. Fasten your seatbelt and ensure all passengers (if any) are properly secured.

1. Set the Truck: Ensure the gear shifter is in neutral and the parking brake is fully engaged.

2. Start the Engine: Turn the ignition key to the START position. Release the key immediately once the engine fires (do not hold it for more than 10 seconds to avoid starter motor damage).

3. Warm-Up Phase: Let the engine idle at 800–1000 RPM for 3–5 minutes. Monitor the gauges:

• Oil pressure should rise to 4–6 bar within 10 seconds.
• Air pressure should build to the 8–10 bar operating range.
• Coolant temperature should begin to rise gradually.

 

4. Warning Light Check: If any critical warning lights (low oil pressure, overheating, low air pressure) remain on, shut down the engine immediately and resolve the issue before proceeding.

This is the most critical operation for dump trucks. Follow these steps strictly to avoid accidents:
 Pre-Dumping Safety

1. Choose a Stable Location: Park on a level, firm surface (avoid soft ground, slopes, or uneven terrain) to prevent tipping.
2. Secure the Truck: Engage the parking brake fully, shift to neutral, and chock the wheels if on a slight incline.
3. Clear the Area: Ensure no people, obstacles, or overhead wires are near the dump bed or tailgate. Confirm the tailgate is unlocked and free to swing open.

Lifting the Bed
1.Engage the PTO: Depress the clutch, press the PTO switch (the indicator light will illuminate), then select a low gear (1st or 2nd). Release the clutch slowly to engage the PTO.
2.Activate Hydraulic Lift: Move the hydraulic control valve to the UP position. The bed will rise gradually.
3.Control Engine Speed: Maintain 1000–1500 RPM (do not exceed 1750 RPM to avoid damaging the hydraulic pump).
4.Monitor the Process: Keep an eye on the bed angle and material flow. If the load is stuck, stop lifting immediately. Do not force the bed higher; instead, safely break up the material.
5.Neutralize the System: Once unloading is complete, move the control valve to NEUTRAL to stop the lift.

Lowering the Bed

2.Fully Seat the Bed: Wait until the bed is completely seated on the chassis, then return the control valve to NEUTRAL.
3.Disengage the PTO: Depress the clutch, shift to neutral, and turn off the PTO switch. Release the clutch slowly.
4.Secure the Tailgate: Confirm the tailgate is locked before moving the truck.

⚠️ Critical Safety Warnings:

• Never drive the truck with the dump bed raised, even partially.
• Never stand under a raised dump bed, even with support blocks.
• Do not use the bed to lift passengers or objects other than the intended load.

1. Park Securely: Choose a flat, level surface. Engage the parking brake, shift to neutral, and turn off the engine.

2. Post-Trip Inspection:

• Check for leaks, damage, or loose parts around the hydraulic system, chassis, and dump bed.
• Clean debris from the tailgate, bed, and lights to prevent corrosion and visibility issues.

3. Proper Shutdown: If the engine was operated under heavy load, let it idle for 1–2 minutes before shutting down to cool the turbocharger. Turn off all electrical accessories before removing the key.

4. Log Issues: Record any unusual noises, warning lights, or problems encountered for maintenance reference.
