HOWO NX Dump Truck: Complete Operation & Usage Guide
This guide is tailored for the SINOTRUK HOWO NX series dump truck, covering pre-operation checks, driving procedures, dump bed operations, safety protocols, and basic maintenance.

Before starting the vehicle, perform a full walkaround and interior inspection to ensure safety and prevent mechanical issues:

Exterior & Mechanical Checks

• Fluid Levels: Verify engine oil, coolant, hydraulic oil, fuel, and brake fluid are at the recommended levels. Inspect for leaks under the vehicle.
• Tires & Brakes: Check tire pressure (including spare tire) and tread condition; confirm lug nuts are torqued properly. Test the air brake system by building air pressure to 8-10 bar, ensuring no leaks or abnormal pressure drops.
• Chassis & Hydraulics: Inspect the dump bed, hydraulic cylinders, hoses, and pivot points for damage, cracks, or loose fasteners. Confirm the tailgate locking mechanism is functional.
• Safety Equipment: Ensure fire extinguisher, warning triangles, and reflective markers are present and in good condition.

Interior & Electrical Checks

• Instrument Panel: HOWO NX Dump Truck Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine) to verify all warning lights illuminate (ABS, oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery, air pressure). Lights should turn off once the engine starts (except the parking brake light).
• Controls Test: Test the steering wheel, clutch, gear shifter, turn signals, headlights, hazard lights, and wiper blades. Confirm the hydraulic control valves (lift/lower/neutral) are in the neutral position.
• Seat & Mirrors: Adjust the driver's seat and mirrors for optimal visibility. Fasten your seatbelt.

Neutral & Parking Brake: Ensure the gear shifter is in neutral, and the parking brake is fully engaged.

Start the Engine: Turn the ignition key to the START position. Release the key immediately once the engine fires (do not hold it for more than 10 seconds to avoid damaging the starter motor).

Warm-Up Period: Let the engine idle at 800-1000 RPM for 3-5 minutes. Monitor the instrument panel:

• Oil pressure should rise to the normal range (4-6 bar) within 10 seconds.
• Air pressure should build to the operating range (8-10 bar) before driving.
• The coolant temperature gauge should begin to rise gradually.

Warning Lights: If any warning lights remain on (e.g., low oil pressure, overheating, low air pressure), shut down the engine immediately and resolve the issue before proceeding.

Shifting & Acceleration

• Clutch & Gear Selection: Depress the clutch fully before shifting gears. Use progressive shifting (shifting at appropriate RPMs, typically 1200-1500 RPM for heavy loads) to protect the transmission and engine.
• Load Considerations: For fully loaded conditions, use lower gears for acceleration and climbing hills to avoid engine lugging (operating below 1000 RPM).
• Braking: Use the air brakes progressively. For long descents, use engine braking (exhaust brake/EVB) in combination with the service brakes to prevent brake fade.

Speed & Handling

• Maintain a steady speed within legal limits, especially when carrying loose materials. Avoid sudden turns or lane changes, as the high center of gravity increases rollover risk.
• Always keep a safe distance from other vehicles, as the stopping distance for a fully loaded dump truck is significantly longer than passenger vehicles.

This is the most critical operation for dump trucks. Follow these steps strictly to avoid accidents:
Pre-Dumping Safety

1. Choose a Stable Location: Park on a level, firm surface (avoid soft ground, slopes, or uneven terrain) to prevent the truck from tipping during lifting.
2. Set the Truck: Engage the parking brake fully, shift the transmission to neutral, and chock the wheels if on a slight incline.
3. Clear the Area: Ensure no people, obstacles, or overhead wires are near the dump bed or tailgate. Confirm the tailgate is unlocked and free to swing open.

Lifting the Bed

1. Engage the Power Take-Off (PTO): Depress the clutch pedal, press the PTO switch on the instrument panel (the PTO indicator light will illuminate), then select a low gear (e.g., 1st or 2nd gear). Release the clutch slowly to engage the PTO.
2. Activate the Hydraulic Lift: Move the hydraulic control valve to the "UP" position. The dump bed will begin to rise gradually.
3. Control Engine Speed:HOWO NX Dump Truck Maintain a steady engine speed of 1000-1500 RPM (do not exceed 1750 RPM, as high speed can damage the hydraulic pump).
4. Monitor the Process: Keep an eye on the bed's angle and the material flow. If the load is stuck, stop lifting immediately (do not attempt to force the bed higher) and use a tool to break up the material safely.
5. Neutralize the System: Once the material is fully unloaded, move the hydraulic control valve to the "NEUTRAL" position to stop the lift.

Lowering the Bed

1. Release the Hydraulic Pressure: Move the control valve to the "DOWN" position. The bed will lower under its own weight (keep the engine idling at low RPM to control the speed).
2. Fully Lower the Bed: Wait until the bed is completely seated on the chassis, then move the control valve back to "NEUTRAL".
3. Disengage the PTO: Depress the clutch, shift the transmission to neutral, then press the PTO switch to turn it off (the indicator light will turn off). Release the clutch slowly.
4. Secure the Tailgate: Confirm the tailgate is locked in place before moving the truck.

⚠️ Critical Safety Notes:
Never drive the truck with the dump bed raised, even partially.
Do not use the bed to lift or carry passengers or objects other than the intended load.
If the bed gets stuck mid-lift, shut down the engine immediately and inspect the hydraulic system.

Park Securely: Choose a flat, level surface to park. Engage the parking brake fully, shift to neutral, and turn off the engine.
Post-Trip Inspection:

• Check for leaks, damage, or loose parts around the hydraulic system, chassis, and dump bed.
• Clean the tailgate, bed, and lights to remove debris that could cause corrosion or visibility issues.
• Shut Down Properly: Turn off all electrical accessories (lights, radio) before removing the key. If the engine was operated under heavy load, let it idle for 1-2 minutes before shutting down to cool the turbocharger.
• Log Maintenance: Record any unusual noises, warning lights, or issues encountered during operation for the next service.

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working around the truck (safety shoes, gloves, high-visibility vest).
Never stand under the raised dump bed, even with support blocks in place.
Adhere to local traffic laws and weight limits to avoid fines and accidents.
