Dump semi-trailers primarily consist of a container-style semi-trailer body and a hydraulic lifting system; power is supplied either by the tractor unit's power take-off (PTO) or an engine mounted on the trailer itself. They are mainly used for transporting and unloading bulk cargo containers (such as coal or iron ore) at ports, thereby enhancing unloading efficiency.
To meet standard load requirements, lightweight dump semi-trailers employ a front-hoist, rear-discharge configuration to reduce structural weight. The cargo box utilizes a framework design combined with corrugated panels to ensure structural integrity. The lifting mechanism features a front-mounted single-stage hydraulic cylinder paired with a stabilizing linkage and a widened four-point pivot design to improve lifting stability. The chassis is constructed from high-strength steel with an optimized cross-member design to minimize tare weight, while aluminum alloy components are widely used to achieve further weight reduction. Some models incorporate an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) liner within the cargo box to minimize material residue and accelerate the unloading process.
